This is for avid science fiction readers: Is there an author named Paul Hogan?
Q. I believe that's the name of the author (from Boston, I believe) of three books collectively called "The Gentle Giant" series. I tried looking him up, as well as that phrase, on the internet but came up blank. I want to get the books, which I last read over 15 years ago, but need the specific titles of the books.

A science fiction novel question.?
Q. A long time ago, I read this science fiction book but I can't recall the title or author. It was about a girl named Paige and she meets an interesting man right before she is about to board a space ship into space for a long time. The only specific details I can remember are that the man, upon learning her name, asks her "Are you the first page or the last?" and that later in the novel the main character learns that the man has followed her into space on another space ship.

A. "The Starlight Crystal" by Christopher Pike "Paige Christian has just gotten the oppurtunity of a lifetime. She is going to live on a spaceship where one day is equal to ten days on earth. Aboard the ship everything is going according to plan, but something goes wrong. The earth is destroyed by a horrible race called the Shamere. Paige and the ship are forced to stay in time warp a lot longer than they should have. Along their way they come in contact with a being calling themselves the Creation. The creation guides Paige along her epic life… [cont.]

Can you help me with the title or author of a short story?
Q. Tried Google, but don't remember any specific lines from the story. It's science fiction in a future where people are made "equal" by wearing devices that negate any prowess or skill, i.e. physically strong made to wear weights and chains, intelligent have devices that disrupt concentration, etc. In this particular story, a husband and wife are watching a live television broadcast of a ballerina (encumbered so that she is not *too* graceful) when their son bursts onto the program. Neither parent recognizes their son (the husband, for example, has a device in his ear that emits a loud sound that breaks his train of thought), who rips off the numerous weights and other hindrances and attempts to encourage others to follow him but is gunned… [cont.]
